From the East
Brethren,
At our last Stated Communication we began having our meals catered by Chef Roberto and the feedback has been very positive. We do ask that you RSVP for meals so that Chef Roberto can prepare accordingly.
As stated above, on May 29th we are inviting our families to join us for dinner. It is the support of our families that allow us to grow in Masonry.
For some of us, it isn’t always easy juggling family and Masonic commit-ments. The support and understanding we get from our spouses and children are what make our lives easier and this is an opportunity to show them a little of what we do.
I look forward to seeing you in lodge.
Fraternally,
Bill Stout – Worshipful Master, PM
From the South
Greetings from the South!
Brother, I am sure you know about Memorial Day, what about MecDec Day? It is the 20th of May and is the abbreviation for Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. Written in 1775 it precedes the US Declaration of Independence in 1776. Here is some background that you may find interesting.
The rebellious history of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County parallels the rebellious culture of its colonial inhabitants. Consider the Ulster Scots, also called Scotch-Irish, who came to the States from British-controlled Northern Ireland as indentured servants, not surprisingly bringing with them a hatred of British oppression.
These Ulster Scots were tough and accustomed to a harsh life. They were known for their independent spirit, strong work ethic, and hot tempers. They held the firm belief that all men were equal, and had a natural distaste for any authority, especially British authority. Since Ulster Scots accounted for a significant part of North Carolina’s population in the 1760s, it seems only natural that the MecDec and the Revolution would soon follow.
The Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence has a very rich and interesting history.

From the Secretary
Brothers,
We’ve begun our Spring/Summer fundraiser with the availability of Autobell car wash gift cards. For $20.00, each card will give you the Full Service Wash which includes interior vacuum, exterior wash, dash/door panel/console wipe down, interior window cleaning and hand dry, or will afford you at least three of their ‘drive thru’ washes. You may choose to upgrade to any of their other services at the store location if you wish. Half of the cost of the voucher is retained by the Lodge and will be split between our Masonic charities.
Please see me to purchase, or mail a check to the Lodge with “car wash” on the Memo line, and I’ll send you the card(s).
Brothers, please endeavor to drop a check in the mail for your 2018 dues if you have not yet done so. By the end of the summer, I will be preparing final delinquency notices for mailing.
Fraternally,
Mike Hamrick, PM
